I would like to know if there is a way to have the users add their birthdays in their profiles, have a Today's Birthdays show up in the footer of the forum, and send them a Happy Birthday email message.

however, there is no built in capability for displaying in the footer or sending the email. This can certainly be done using the program hooks, but you would have to write some code.

as soon as we get done with the the wp 3.0 capability release (wp and wpmu merging), we plan to turn our attention to a templating and plugin system for spf that will make things like this easier and standardized.
