indeed saved with each auto-blogged post, but the posts do not appear
as forum posts.

Manually
clicking the Link To Forum widget in Edit Post, does add the post to
the forum, though obviously I want this to be automatic when the post is made.

Any ideas on how to enable this?

SimplePress is awesome BTW! Much better than Automatic's own BBPress!

When 4.0 etc., was released not all of the WP 'publish' hooks (the 'transition hooks as they like to call them) were in place so it was not possible to automatically trigger a link when a post was published.
This functionality has only been introduced in the new 4.2 now available in beta.
