This is a odd request…  I'll try to explain.

My site has a simple breadcrumb tucked tightly under the horizontal navigation bar. It works well but naturally gets confused as heck when on a forum page.  It just shows: Home>>OneHeckOfALongStringThatIsTheForumAndTopic

I'd like to set my page template for the forum not to show my breadcrumbs since they are worthless, and use instead the Simple:Press breadcrumbs up there, and then style them to match so things seem more seamless.

So can sf_render_breadcrumbs be used up there? I did my homework and I can't see if it's been done or is possible since it would be called before the forum is loaded.

If it can't, it won't be the end of the world as I'll just move it up there with javascript.  I'm just hoping for a more elegant approach.

It is really going to depend on timing and sequencing. If the area where your 'theme' breadcrumbs currently sit is generated after SP has populated it's control variables then in theory you should be able to use it. You could check that easily enough by, say, dumping the values of the forums global $sfvars array to the display, at the point of your theme breadcrumbs to determine if they are empty or not. If they are populated then you could be in business.

Although you would want to rewrite some of that breadcrumb code…

Thanks for stopping by and helping out every now and then. It's appreciated and hasn't gone unnoticed… Smile

<?php var_dump($sfvars); ?> Came out NULL so I guess that settles that. I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't think to try that myself without your nudge.

No need to thank me, it is I who is in your debt. Until I'm in the position to give that donate button a click, I'll help as I can in other ways.

Frankly, I'm quite dumbfounded how you two manage the faithful support that you do. And yet still manage to find time for development, and the usual day to day activities…  like eating, bathing and jobs.

Ha Ha!

Simplicity is good.  Using <?php the_title(); ?> on my forum page contains all I need to create the slugs and links for a alternate breadcrumb!
