Can you add Google+ to the list of supported social network identities for our forum profiles?

The Edit Identities page says only usernames, no urls, are allowed, but a url will be necessary for Google+ profiles for the time being.

wouldnt everyones initial url be the same???  no urls means, for facebook for example, dont enter the http://facebook.com... it will be added automatically...  assume the same for google plus...

and we obviously do not add all the possible social network stuff, but they can be added via the custom profile field plugin...

Yes. The profile id is just a string of numbers on the end. Mine is https://plus.google.com/113858.....3322684974.

Would using the custom profile field plugin make a Google+ icon appear along with all of the others next to a person's posts? When I tried the plugin, it seemed to only create a new text field on the user's profile itself.

Google+ is already a major social network, one that I think is here to stay and will keep on growing. It seems to me it should be one of the default identities along with Facebook, Twitter, and the rest.

yes, exactly what I was saying about the url... if we had it in our identities you would not enter the https://plus.google.com...

no, I dont think I would use the custom profile field icon for that (sorry, hadnt read the post close enough)... it can display it in the right location, if you put the template tag there, but no icon and the url wouldnt be there...

you would need a filter on the profile to add the input field... and then a template tag to display it... easy, but not trivial if you dont code...

in sheer numbers, its far less than facebook and twitter... and we do get requests all the time for new additions... and we just cannot keep adding them to core... maybe a quick plugin for adding new ones... but we will discuss it none the less...

Thank you for adding Google+ support a while back. Can you update the icon to the new/current version?

Have they changed it already? I can certainly open a ticket to get the one we supply updated but you can, of course, update your own whenever you like in your SP theme images folder.

Yeah, the icon in my forum is the old black one with a white + in the middle and Google colors along the top. The current one is a reddish background with a lowercase cursive "g" and a superscripted +.

I forget when they changed it exactly, but I think it's been a few months now. The current version is probably here to stay for a while.

actually both are still quite prevalent on the net... and we can certainly update... but still quicker and easier for you to just drop it in your sp theme images folder and replace the old one... no need to wait for us because the icon change wont drive a new release...

Sure, not everyone has switched, but the one currently used by Simple:Press isn't the official one any longer as far as I know. Just thought I'd let y'all know so that it could be updated with the next release. No rush.
