Hello!
First, I love this plugin!! It blends nicely with my theme's color scheme. I have a request that there could, perhaps, be a way to "mobilize" the layout of this forum. Many of my visitors and users are accessing my WordPress page with BlackBerry and other mobile devices and it is sometimes very "painful" to navigate beyond just the blog section. If you are able to do something like this or come up with a similar solution.
Thanks :-)
As I understand it; Wordpress Themes can be developped for mobile blogs. I would imagine that SPF Skins could easily do the same.
As it is now, SPF will fill whatever space is given it, within reason. Obviously choices of what to display, and in what style will be dictated by you in your efforts to best serve your users.
if you feel up to it, a Mobile skin would be a great addition to the collection now available and skins are editable using standard web editing tools. Directions for custom skins are available in the online help.

That'll be something I can look into if time permits. The main thing, I guess is that I'm using the mofuse plugin for wordpress and while it does a great job on the "blog" portion, it doesn't seem to do so great a job on the other parts (i.e.- spf). I'll keep searching around and seeing what could be found. Honestly, this is the best forum for my WP site and I'm not willing to let it go!
Thanks Radio for the prompt response.

Ok…not having much success in terms of getting the forum formatted properly for mobile. My PHP skills are really limited and I may end up having to bail on the whole thing :-(.

It isn't perfect, but the WPTouch plugin will output the forum into a nice format for iPod Touch, iPhone, Android and Blackberry Storm. Its a bit wider than it should be, but it would be nice to see what this community could do about reformatting pages to fit with this awesome plugin.

People would love to be able to access from Iphone / Android / Blackberry etc. the forum on my site. A quickie version that let's them do that would be wonderful. I hope this is developed. I have looked all over the site, and I do not see it.
no one to date has created a skin that really makes that feasible… plus, the forum is javascript heavy and most phones dont like that…

wp-touch would be what I would target. These new phones eat up javascript just fine.
wp-touch is a simple drop-in that detects when a mobile phone is viewing your wordpress site and provides a mobile-friendly skin. I can't wait to see the new release when its finally ready, and hope that in subsequent releases you try out wptouch to see what I mean. Go ahead and add the plugin to your blog and use a blackberry storm, iphone, or pre to look at your web site.

we have an open ticket for something – not sure it will be next one as it will be a quick turn release for compatibility with wp 3.0 in March…
btw, this site looks awesome and functional on my moto droid! not so well on my blackberry though…

Ok, but (IMHO) panning and zooming around a full site isn't really what I was trying to get across (though that is important). Also your editor does not work on an iphone (though thats the only thing I found not to work).
I assume your phone runs Android? I think this may work. Look at the gaming site
from your phone and also from your PC.
It is completely different. In this case, the mobile device is detected and an alternate theme/skin is used that provides way friendlier GUI for the small screen.
Its becoming the rage right now to support the smaller screens of mobile devices. Take for example PHPBB3 forum with a mobile skin that can be seen at this site
http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/phpBB3/
(view with regular browser and then with your phone — I think android is supported but know iphone is)
And for SMF, http://www.farfromperfection.c…..phone.html
(that last link is the plugin site with some images).
I think simplepress is the right idea for a forum: its to silly to have disparate comment and user databases and constantly looking for bridging and synchronizing tools. The CMS systems should simply be intimate with the forum solution. Apart from the excellent changes offered in the latest RC, the whole "mobile" thing is only going to be much MUCH bigger.
Let me know if you are able to see the sites.
