Do you plan to use the system reputations in the forum?

please define what you mean by system reputation. Think we have requests for different variations. We already allow rating of posts and will have a cubepoints plugin released next weekend. A 'thanks' plugin has been in the works...
So we need to understand specifics...

Ideally I would like to have a reputation system that can be tied what you reward. Perhaps only virtual.

sorry, still not really following you... are you suggesting a plugin where folks might gain some sort of points for doing things like posting, voting in polls, etc and then then can pass along those points to other users in the form of some sort of reputation or points system?
If you are referring to a system in another forum app, perhaps you can link to such an example or the plugin/tool...
are cubepoints plugin, when working with the wp cubepoints plugin, allows users to gain points or other increment of value... you cannot then assign those accrued points to other users but I have seen this in other forums...

Just to add to this... would there be anyway for a user to say "rep" another user. I don't mean donate, I mean if they "rep" that user the user would get a certain number of points. Also to be able to "neg" that user and have the system remove points. A forum I spend some time on has this syetm and it is very popular among the community.
Here is the basis.
People like your post they can give you positive rep, this does not affect their points but I suppose it could if you wish it to. If they don't like your post they can neg you, I think this is a great way to discourage spam and flaming as people don't want to loose rep. If they end up negative they get a red dot instead of green in this case and for every hundred positives they get another green dot.
I would prefer to see this in cube points rather than the post thank you plug in.

Are you talking about "rep" a user or a post? So if someone liked another user they could award them some kind of kudos but if they don't like them then give them a negative type of vote? So if you just wanted to lower someone's points, to mess with them, all you have to do is click on an 'unlike' button.
If talking about the liking the post and then the user who created it getting some kind of points or rep then that's already there.
The idea is that if you like a post you give someone thanks or kudos whatever you call it. If you don't like the post or think it unworthy then you don't. So a non-like vote is the almost the same as a negative vote.
Using the thanks plugin you can have it show how many thanks per posts the person has made. If he made 50 posts without any thanks at all then that would definitely make someone look bad or like an unnecessary poster.
