Hello, I love the layout of Simple Press, and used it a few years back for a BMX site I set up. I am currently having a TON of trouble with bbPress, just trying to get it to act like a normal forum, and the plugins are buggy as all getout. I've spent a ton of time just trying to get everything to function halfway normal, and things are broke all over.

So I have concerns:

  • What if I purchase your Silver and the plugins are buggy?
  • What if they don't play well with other WordPress plugins? Are there any known compatibility issues?
  • What if it doesn't integrate well with BuddyPress?
  • There is not a whole lot of information here on how exactly it does integrate with BuddyPress. For example -
  1. Do posts show up in activity feeds?
  2. If you mention someone in a post will they be notified?
  3. Do BuddyPress Groups work at all?

I don't have a ton of members, but I spend a ton of time on my site, and I'm not making money off it, so I'm a little hesitant to jump in without knowing what I'm getting into. Any answers would be appreciated :D

Oh, and as a bonus question: Can I use my own animated smileys?  <<that would getcha big brownie points, lol

buggy plugins would be fixed, just like simple press core itself...  we only offer our plugins here so we maintain them...

most compatibility issues would be with core itself vice plugins but they could certainly occur...  99% of the compatibility issues we encounter are due to wp themes or other plugins not following the wp api...  we dont maintain a specific list because its dynamic with themes and plugins constantly evolving...  but if you have an particular ones, just ask and we can check our notes...

the buddypress plugin is described here:  https://simple-press.com/features/

granted, not a lot of info, the codex page (members only) does contain more info...  but  yes, forum post show up in activity streams...  yes, mentions in posts (our mentions plugin) will notify mentioned folks...  bp groups are not supported since they are completely different from SP user groups...  bp is simply a grouping of users of common interest or other... but simple press user groups are used to control permissions and accesses... so they dont really mesh well at all...  in additon our buddypress plugin supports the menu bar, notifications, common avatars and some profile integration...

by animated smileys do you mean animated gifs?  I guess I have never tried them, but see no reason why they wouldnt work...  simple press core already supports you adding and using your own custom smileys...

Mr Papa..  Thank you for explaining the Bp Groups thing..   I understand it and accept..  how your SP Groups work and such..

However, is there plans to form some kind of SP  User Grouping  under a Titled Post  like FACEBOOK Does when someone starts a 'Group'  then invites others in?    Just curious.

I think the BuddyPress plugin for SP  works pretty good..  I about lost my cookies though -  there's a page here on the site that says that it's 'STill under development'..   this, after I signed on..  >Yikes!<

Oh, and this reply says I need to enter a 'guest name and email'   Although I'm already Signed in..   wierd..
And now it's saying This user name already belongs to a forum member..

you werent signed in here when you posted this...  and its posted in non member area...

the buddypress plugin you refer to was from long ago... then it became the alpha/beta test topic...  when it was released, we did update the topic to say it was released... but others kept posting to it so that 'news' was lost... guess we could have locked the topic... but the plugin has been released for quite a long time now (over a year?)...

We already support in core the ability for users to join usergroups (has to be enabled of course)...  And as such by joining a usergroup, you could get access to unique forum(s) that might go along with the usergroup...  however, we dont have a facility for users to be able to create forums or usergroups...  our api certainly supports, so this could be added via plugin (without core mods)...  our roadmap, currently does not have adding such core support or plugin at this time... but I have made a note of your desire and it can be considered in the future...
