Topic RSS
Since upgrading from 3.1.4 to 4.1.0, a couple of users have told me that the behavior of "Most Recent Topics With Unread Posts" (the table that you can display at the bottom of the forum main page) has changed. Specifically:
- The list used to show only topics with unread posts for that user at the top; in other words, once the user reads a topic and returns to the list, that topic disappears from that list
- The read/unread post icon does not change to "read" consistently and sometimes stays as "unread"
However, for me the read/unread post icon behaves properly (perhaps they're just using the back button, or perhaps by the time they return to the main page, there has indeed been a new post), and I thought that the list always showed the posts in reverse chronological order, regardless of whether they were read or not. Am I missing something? Did that list used to show just each specific user's unread list, or is there a setting to toggle that?
It still works the same way – I don't believe any changes were made to the model although changes were made to the backend query and display.
There is a display bug in 4.1 whch was missed on beta but is fixed in the 4.1.1 update which will be released pretty soon. For some users the start post and last post columns end up being the same. This might actually throw the new post flag out for some. If that's the issue if you an ask your users to be patient there s a fix on the way.
The following problem with the "Most Recent Topics" list was recently brought to my attention. I verified, and concur with the user's frustration…
The list shows recent topics with unread posts, but the links take you to the first page of the topic, not to the last post/reply in that thread. And, there are no page icons by the Most Recent Topic titles. So, for multi-page topics, users must click through to find the truly Most Recent post in the topic.
Is this how it is supposed to work? It seems like you should be taken to last "Most Recent" post in the topic, or at least the last page.

which unread topics?
the new/recently updated topics dropdown does take you to the last post in the topic. Will have to test the list at the top or bottom of the home page if thats what you mean, but thought they were built with same routine – need to check.
Yes – the 'last Post' link takes me to the last post in the last page of the topic as it should
??
actually, that is the desired operation for that latest topics. Its styled operates just like the normal forum view. If you want to go to the last topic, thats what the link in the last topic column is. that said, it probably should have a page list then to be consistent (or make it link to the last). will open a ticket for review and do one or the other..
Clarification: I am speaking of the list at the top of the forum page titled "Most Recent Topics With Unread Posts" not the drop down Admin Queue list, nor the links in the Last Post column of Group/Forum view.
This is the option admins/moderators have for showing the list of most recent unread posts. But the links take you to the first page of the topic, not the last post.
The issue I describe is similar to the post permalinks that were fixed in the latest release by adding /p### to the topic link. It seems, at least to me, behavior should be the same for Most Recent Topics since the topic title links currently take you to the first page of the topic, no matter how recent the last post is. Adding page icons to this may help avoid confusion.
Clear as mud?

understood the first time. and responded that it was expected behaviour. but, can see how it might be confusing – but it is consistent with the forum view that looks just like it but with page links. also stated ticket open to consider adding the page links in there (or optionally change the link).
Never mind! The Last Post column within the Most Recent list does exactly what I'm trying to explain, and it couldn't be more obvious! I need to look at things more closely before just listening to our members when they complain.
If anything, adding the page icons would be consistent, but linking title to the topics make perfect sense. Sorry for the confusion.
