I am using the plugin CryptX to hide email address links from bots using Javascript encryption The plugin works fine on non-SPF pages in my WP site. Mailto: email address links used in SPF topics do appear encrypted – at least when the link is displayed in the page footer when moused over – but clicking the link fails to start Outlook as happens when one of these email links is clicked from a non-SPF page. Any suggestions?
Tom
When editing a SPF post, adding an email link to a name with the link tool results in a message asking if mailto: should be added to the link since it is email.
Cryptx is found just by searching for Cryptx in WP plugins.
This is the source when used in an SPF post. Clicking this link opens a new window but fails to start Outlook and pass the unencrypted address to Outlook's To: field…
<div>2. Send email to <a class="sfcode" href="javascript:DeCryptX('lsjtujbmufsAtbjoukpfijhi/dpn')" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Kristi Alter</a><span class="sfcode"><em><strong></strong></em></span></div>
<div>3. Fax to 123-456-7890, attn: Jim Smith</div>

<tr class="row-3">
<td class="column-1">Jim Smith – President</td><td class="column-2"><a href="javascript:DeCryptX('xpmhjftAbpm/dpn')">Email</a></td>
</tr>
I am trying it here and I admit that it does not open my email client but simply opens up a blank browser page – and that is something I can look into later.
But – regardless of that – the source code you have posted above is NOT what I see using the normal link tool. You appear to have wrapped that link using the 'code' toolbar button. Why is that? When I try this my source in the forum post looks exactly like your second example. Doesn't work but the format is identical…
Trying to understand what I may have done differently where one instance works but not within SPF.
For the SPF post, I used the link tool as follows:
Link URL: typed the email address…the script then asks if mailto: should be added since it appears to be an email address.
Title: left blank
Class: Have tried both not set and sfcode options with no success
If it helps, I can provide the site URL's
Don't need the url I have installed it on my dev system.
The only options I seem to be able to get to work out of the box is by typing the email address into the actual post (not using the link) and using the 'Replacement' options and having add the mailto automatically. That works real well.
I think the actual problem is that this was written for standard blog posts so it does not take into account the other filtering system imposed upon forum posts. I suspect that when using the javascript option it is actually getting encoded twice.
We could actually support this fairly easily and I will table this for discussion but at the moment I don't see it can work as is – other than as specified above.
