I've Stopped Receiving New User Registration Emails - sometimes ...

I can't figure this out. I've stopped receiving the majority of my new user registration emails. I'll still get one for every 10 to 20 registrations, but I don't get them consistantly. It started happening when my forum membership hit about 900 members. Since 900 (give or take) I've only gotten a few email notifications despite the fact that I'm at 1020 members now.

I guess it's not a huge deal, but it was nice to see the new memberships trickle in daily. It also helped me keep an eye on legit registrations and ones that didn't seem so legit.

I don't remember changing any email preferences, and even if I did that wouldn't explain the intermitant notifications.

I'm using 4.1.3 (I know I know, I should upgrade).

Are there several different settigns I need to check? If so, what are they? Thanks!

Questions on email are always hard to answer as this is all driven by WordPress – not SP. Especially the new user notification email. If you get some or most of them then that does suggest your settings are OK and while WP mail can be notoriously shaky once it is working it usually behaves itself. so maybe it is worht looking elsewhere for the cause – maybe check your email settings in your hosting account – storage size etc. Sorry to be vague…

if you are on shared hosting, many times an smtp plugin helps with the WP email issues…  perhaps try one, such as HGK SMTP (we use that one)…

I'll try the plugin. I assume if I don't like it I can uninstall it and WP will revert back to using the wp_mail() function, correct? I wonder why WP would suddenly start choking at 900 members. Is it an overload issue? I checked my spam folder to make sure that I hadn't marked one of the notifications as spam. I hadn't, and that wouldn't explain the intermittant issues anyway.

I've also been trying to figure out a way to send a single message to all members, like a site-wide notification. But the message needs to be able to include links because I'll use it as a sort of site digest. Does the HGK SMTP plugin handle this? If not, is there another plugin that you'd recommend that will fix my issue and allow me to send out site-wide notifications? That way I'm not installing 2 differend plugins that may conflict with each other.

Thanks!

I doubt it is WP that has choked. Yes you can deactivate the HGK SMTP plugin at any time. Many people who have had problems report success with this. I should have mentioned it originally.

There are, I believe, several plugins out there that handle mailing lists but I am afraid I have never tried any so am unable to make a recommendation. Whether there is one that also duplicates the functionality of the SMTP plugin I really cannot say.
