any errors in your server error logs? thats normall indicative of an out of memory error… see our wiki for help in increasing your memory…

same question too… you removed or overwrite the old simple-forum directoy?

normally you can look at error logs on shared hosting… dont you have some sort of control panel (ie cpanel)?

and 32M is not an increase in memory… thats what WP has been setting it to for quite some time… use the method in the wiki and try 48M… if you host is even half on the ball, they are running php5 and you should be able to set it…

Mr. Papa, found my 404 error. It was my wp-content folder set to 777. Changed it to 755 and the error disappeared. Do you think this is related to my not having the security update to work?

That is a distinct possibility. And nobody commented on what i said in post 14 of this thread either. We could have worked around the issue.

well original poster said permissions were checked.  another reason why we hate these 'I have similar problem' add ons to threads…  much better for everyone to open their own topic so it can be dealt with by itself.

I downloaded the complete 4.13 and uploaded it via FTP, replacing all the existing files.

But it still says I'm using 4.12

What did I miss/do wrong?
