Hi,

I'm running WPMU 2.9.2 with Multi-DB.  I didn't want all blogs to have forums, only ones I select as admin, so I placed the SPF files into the wp "plugins" folder for control.  (If I use the "mu-plugins" folder anyone could activate the forum – correct?)

My Main blog is ID 1.  I activated SPF 4.2.1 on sub-blog ID 2 perfectly. Got several forums set up.  I just tried to upgrade to SPF 4.2.2 as Admin logged into ID 2.  I received an error message that only "admins with plugin activation rights" could do the upgrade.  The bar kept running so I let it go for 20 minutes, nothing changed.   Aborted, got the "white screen of death".  So, I deleted all 4.2.2 files and re-uploaded 4.2.1, deleted and reinstalled my backup DB tables in ID 2 and everything is back as before.

Am I OK running SPF from the "plugins" folder in WPMU, and, how should I do the upgrade?

Thanks!

ChuckS

not quite correct… if you put it in mu-plugins, I am not sure it will work… thats just an auto activate location for plugins… if you put it in plugins, the preferred location, an network site can activate and use the plugin…

multisite (yes, I am using the 3.0 lingo), that I am aware of, doesnt support functionality like you mention for limiting who can use/activate…

as to the upgrade, do you mean you were logged into network site 2 as its admin or as the site admin? either should be able to install or upgrade, though if you installed as site admin, you might need to add the network admin as a spf admin…

Well, that was it.  I was logged in as network admin.  Once I got things cleaned up again and could login as site admin all went well and it upgraded.  That one is going in with big red letters into my "things to remember" notebook!

As for the limiting the plugin blog by blog, I remember now why I wanted the spf plugin in the "plugins" folder.  With it there, I can use the subcription plugin called Supporter and can check off which wp plugins I want used on which blogs.

A big Thank You,

ChuckS
