Problem with Quote and Reply

Just installed Simple Press on my Wordpress MU-blog and very happy with it! Only one thing is bugging me: I can't get the permission right for the option 'Quote and reply'. My users keep getting the 404 forbidden-page. Which setting should I use to solve this?

Thanks a lot!

Are you referring to 'Quote and Reply' in the PM subsystem or the 'Quote' button on forum posts? I will assume the latter.

the few people who have had problems with this have all had a plugin installed that was throwing bad javascript and stopping the forum function from working. Sadly I do not remember the plugin name although a search on the forums here should turn it up.

Having said that if you are getting a 404 (not found) from only this button then that actually does suggest a missing file or a file with incorrect permissions.

So can you confirm which 'quote' you mean? Confirm if you are seeing any other such problems and let me know what plugins you have to see if it jogs my memory. And- maybe also can you tell me how you uploaded the plugin to your server?

I'm referring to Quote and Reply on the actual forum, see image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/1…..539935499/

I tried searching this forum for 'quote and reply'-issues but nothing useful came up. It is a 403-error (not 404) by the way, sorry for the confusion. I get this error after clicking Quote and Reply, typing in a reply and then clicking the 'post to reply'-button. What happens then is I get a white screen with Forbidden and No permisson on it.

The 403-error page is coming and going with different topics, posts and replies with my users. But always on the Quote and Reply. Could it be indeed some error in a combination of plugins? I have installed:

- Akismet

- Clicky for Wordpress

- Google Analytics for Wordpress

- Simple:Press Forum

- WordPress Automatic Upgrade

- WordPress Database Backup

Or should I change permissions? Or the attributes/rights of the plugin on the server?

Thanks for your help!

what permissions do you have on wp-content, plugins and simple-forum?  the should all be 0755 including any subdirs under simple-forum…  the php files contained within simple-forum (and its suddirs) should be 0644

and what does clicky do?  sound like its doing something when clicking on links…

The permissions are all okay. Clicky is a statistics program.

I asked two nice wizkids to help me and they figured out what the problem was. There was some kind of code that had to be turned on. So the problem is solved!

I will get information about this tomorrow so when I do, I will write it down on this forum.

I was told the following: the problem was apparently that the messages on the forum were send by html protocol. Html doesn't recognise some characters like ENTER and that's why we got the error page all the time. To solve this they turned on BBQ in the dashboard under components/editor/select default editor.

The disadvantage is that you can see html codes when using Quote and Reply. They say they can't fix this. If that is so, why is this problem not appearing on THIS Simple Press forum? Confused

Well I'll tell you – I don't know what these guys are talking about! As you so rightly say – it works here and it works ffor everyone else. When it doesn't work it is because of some other conflict.

I've done some more research myself and have some new information that might help you to help me :-)

The two guys put the Editor under Components on BBcode. This resolved the Forbidden-errors but it means that the users now see html-code so it's not really user friendly.

So I tried putting the setting back to Rich Text and indeed, the problems with the Forbidden-pages returned; when using Quote and Reply, when using Reply to a PM, when using Enters in the post.

Are there other options I should enable/disable when using Rich Text? Is that the reason for the problems?

No settings no. In fact – as you see here – quote doesnt even load anything, simply runs some javascript – which is already loaded – and transfers the text to the editing window. This is why this is so strange. Clearly in your cae this is not happening.

When you click on quote, does the browser appear to be loading content in some way?
