Hey guys,
Just working away at this site using the SPF plugin, have created a skin, and an icon set to match up.
Forum is humming like a bird just fine and dandy to members within the "members" group. That is members who were in WordPress MU before signup.
So I go ahead and create a new member and have assigned the default user group for new signups to be "Members".
The signup process is done using BuddyPress and its registration mechanism.
Problem is users are being added only to the "Guest" group. I've checked via users>member information.
Any ideas on how to apply them to the "Members" group so the minute they activate their account they can then come in and post on the forum?
Keep up the great work.
added to the guest group??? we never add them to the guest user group… in fact, you should never have any users in the guests user group at all… its really just a collection of permissions for folks that visit your site and are not a registered user… now, you can put users in there I guess, if you wanted to make a member have the same permissions as a guest, but thats a manual action…
on wpmu, in some instances, when the user is created, they dont belong to any user group – until they visit the forum… then they get put in the default members user group as listed on forum – options – member settings…
so I guess more details are needed… what are your forum rank settings… are they getting other wp role? there are no other reports of anything like this happening…
Hey,
no i don't want people in the "guest" group just like you say only people who haven't registered to be a "guest". Members should be "Guests" and "Members".
Here are the current "Member settings"
|
|
||
|
Default User Group Membership: |
||
| Default User Group for Guests | Guests Members Moderators | |
| Default User Group for New Members | Guests Members Moderators | |
|
User Group Memberships Based on WP Role: |
||
| Default User Group for administrator | Guests Members Moderators | |
| Default User Group for editor | Guests Members Moderators | |
| Default User Group for author | Guests Members Moderators | |
| Default User Group for contributor | Guests Members Moderators | |
| Default User Group for subscriber | Guests Members Moderators | |
Wow that was one awesome copy and paste job!
So yeh that's the default settings for SPF and that is also how it is for the MU setup i have here.
This is how a user appears immediately after signup…
| Username | | First Post | Last Post | Posts | Last Visit | Memberships | Rank |
|---|
| alistair | No Posts | No Posts | 0 | January 29, 2010 | Guests | Member |
Rank settings:
| Up to → Posts | No User Group Membership Guests Members Moderators | [Image Can Not Be Found] |
No problems once the user has been shifted into "Members" but this is manual right now which is something that is unusual.
Any ideas?
Thanks for reply Papa :) <3
sorry, cant tell anything from what you pasted… its just showing all the values… I would upload an image…
and thats what I was saying about the guest user group – there should be no users in there… we wont put anyone in there…
are you sure they are actually in the guest user group??? or just being indicated that they are a guest??
have you tried registering a temp account and then visiting the forum and logging in with that newly created account? Bet you will get in and see they are added to the members group as I indicated…
wpmu has a strange/unique way of creating members that doesnt conform to the wp standards… the 4.2 beta I think will handle it better… and certainly hoping that a lot of the off nominal wpmu stuff gets more wp centric (ie same hook/filter names for stuff) with the merge of wp and wpmu in wp 3.0
Hey,
Yeh i've created a few test accounts which are always acting as guests when on the forum.
I can edit the MU / BP extended profile information under the new user and also edit some basic fields for the forum profile.
I thought maybe update profile and head over to forum for posting, but no joy yet.
Lemme grab some screenshots.

yeah, sorry meant to say thats not your problem here, but will cause other problems…
not sure whats going on – any membership or role managing plugins? again, no other reports of this so a bit befuddled… may need some of our wpmu users (andy and I dont use it) to stop by and offer their two cents..
No role manager plugins, simply SPF, BP and MU in harmony.
It doesn't seem to be syncing in with the WP signups….
That's what happens with SPF though right? Existing members of a WP site become forum "Members" and new member signups also go into that category.
Huff puff :(
