Thanks all the same, i'll keep on track if the solution comes around will be sure to get back to you.
Cheers :)
when a new user logs in via buddypress, buddypress handles all of the signup options in it's own little routine.
what this looks like to SPF is that the member has come in from another sub-blog and isn't a member yet.
Using the wpmu plugin 'Login As…' I tested this.
I created a test account and verified that they showed up under my GUESTS collumn in SPF.
I then did the 'Login As…' into the test account and visited the forum.
The account was directed to the SPF profile for completion of the SPF login process and everything seemed to work just fine.
My assumption then is, those 'guest' accounts, just have not visited your forum pages yet.

Hey, okie yeah i checked this.
- Create test using BP signup process
- Verify email sent
- Login at site with username and password
- Visit forum (no post capability)
- Visit forum profile page (edit profile)
- Visit forum (still no post capability)
If the default user group for new Members is set to "Members" why do they get shifted to guest and is there a way I can make this happen at all?
Thanks dudes.

This is a problem known with MU and BP and new users not getting a role assigned. Changing it under the top level blog default user group doesn't work hence the above changeset.
So the problem was that users were not being added into the forum at all, still no major progress on this. Although with the above fix (oh wait maybe i need to upgrade MU for that changeset) anyway i digress. Any new user is still not being pushed in as a member and visiting the profile page and updating information still doesn't give sufficient privelages.
Really at a loss here guys, if I were to modify the SPF query to set the user role to member on all new signups is that something which would be feesible?
Thanks
