I've made so many small mistake and had to correct them it would a disaster if this was a big one. LOL Any help I can get with the questions I have would be appreciated.
I currently have WPMU set up in public_html/
The forum is slugged to "forums" and the current forum permalink is:
http://dapadoo.com/forums/
I want to make the forum the front page of the site. I read the following in the help files:
—————————
1. Go to Settings/Options, Reading, and set your blog 'static front page' as the forum page.
2. Go to Forum/Manage Options – Toolbox tab and click on 'Update Forum Permalink'.
The forum permalink will be something like http://www.mysite.com/forum (depending upon your page title).
The result will be that the forum permalink will remain http://www.mysite.com/forum and your front page will be home to a working forum with valid links.
———————————————
Right now all links on the site for the forum are set for "forums" how do I set the new permalink to have the "s" on forums so I don't have to change everything?
Will this action cause me to lose any work I've put into the forum?
Does the database change?
If I follow the instructions and it doesn't work can I go back to current set up and not lose any thing?
Thank You
David
You don't need to change your slug (forums) – that will be fine. We just usedf 'forum' (wthout the s) because that is the default. It was just an illustration.
Andy,
Thanks for the reply. So in your opinion I'd be OK to try to make the change without any major consenquences if it doesn't work?
With the caveat that I am not an MU user so am not sure of any wrinkles that may bring to the ball game then – yes. You wont lose any data…
Andy.
I fell the same way you do. I wonder when Radio will pop in. I'd like to get his opinion also.

um… ok… new wrinkle in the quote feature here on the support site…
That up above was me, quoting David's last post… Interesting, but wrong…
ok back to the original question: do you need to change your slug to set your forums as the front page of your MU blog.
The simple answer is, no… just make the changes in the blog admin like any normal wp owner… That being said, we did have issues under MU on previous versions, but they havent been seen in a long while.
Although we think that error dragon is dead… I gotta get a bigger stick before I start poking at that one.
As to the second question, if you need to change back, will you loose data? None of the previous issues with blog home pages under MU ever killed anyones data. Simply change back if there is a problem.

Radio,
Thank you
I feel much more secure now to make the change. I'm going to wait until I get some rest before I do it it in case some thing goes wrong. I did an all nighter last doing some updates.
David
Radio,
We are working some existing quote issues from before… Andy uploaded some stuff tonight to see how it held up… its a work in progress, but thanks for the update so we can look at it!
OK, I made the change. It was so simple I almost fell embarrassed being so concerned about it.
Just a brief F.Y.I. When you go to the to Settings/Options, Reading, and set your blog 'static front page' as the forum page, it is already set at what the slug was set as so no changes had to be made on my part. When I went to update permalink it was already set. I just needed to click update.
No wrinkles, a very smooth switch.
Thank you
David
