WPMU 2.7.1 + BuddyPress 1.0RC2 + BBPress Alpha.some.crap + SPF

I would just like report that everything installed prefectly and was up and running with WPMU 2.7.1, BuddPres 1.0-RC2, and BBPress Alpha (installed for BP support only) without a hitch.

I did have to rename the page and slug for S:PF, but that was only because I installed BBPress to /forum/, so my bad. Installing BBPress for use with BuddyPress groups and wire with single sign-on, a process which can only be likened to have a poorly preformed root canal, left my site wanting. BuddyPress' handeling of BBPress forums / threads causes BBPress to be functionally unsuable for a human. After looking over WP forum software I chose this over WP-Forum for it's added functionality. Thank you for that.

The only thing I have to work out now is removing the sidebar on the forum page (which I noticed you had a tutorial for, I will reply with its efficacy per WPMU).

Thanks for all the good work, the forums function perfectly and are a great deal easier to administer than any other WPMU plugin I've used- let alone BBPress.

thanks for the kind words!

as to the email, very odd… we had one person say the same thing yesterday, but have had many successful user accounts registered yesterday and today and subsequent logins… you did check your spam mail?

if we can find a developer that knows wpmu and/or buddypress (neither Andy or I use them), we can likely increase the integration.

I did check spam, both in gmail and mail.app (just in case IMAP did something dumb), no dice. Anyway, I'll keep trying.

Our current installation of WPMU / BuddyPress will be migrated to a new server (with a better domain name) once we feel like it's resonably stable. The current server will become a dev server. I don't see a problem giving you an admin account once the move has been made, especially if it may result in tighter integration, which is of use to us. Sadly, academia's pushes into the future, such as our lab development, are glacial at best. We're hoping for a transfer this summer. I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE:

Doncha has released WPMU2.7.1 and BuddyPress 1.0 was released by the folks at BuddyPress.org this past week. Our test domain is currently running both, allong with SPF 4.0.2 without any troubles whatsoever.

BuddyPress's plugin system is getting MUCH more attention and new documentation has been promiced by the BuddyPress team.

Integration with various BuddyPress features such as messaging, profiles, wire and group and personal activity reports definately seems to be capable of accepting input from SPF. Exactly how we're going to achieve that integration is still up in the air, dependant on the enhanced docs from BuddyPress.

I have not completely unpacked from extended trip out of state, although it's good to be home in Florida again, it's going to be a while before I'm back up and running at full speed myself.

UPDATE:

BuddyPress is now up to v 1.0.2 and a nice feature of this release is that they have included a sample plugin for developers to help integration with their system.

Using that skeleton framework I have been coding (unfortunately I code with a brick) a plugin to integrate SPF actions and BuddyPress Site Wide Activities.

To say the platform is fluid is an understatement as I have to integrate changes in WPMU, BuddyPress and SPF and justify it along with my own knowledge of WordPress plugin craft.

As of this writing I have not yet had a successful test of my plugin. I'm writing this post to take a step away, breathe (those bricks are heavy), and take a look at something else besides the innards of my dev site.

Hopefully soon I will have something to report on this integration.

If you want someone to test your plugin, send it my way.  This is the sort of integration that I'm looking for on the site I'm developing.

I'm definitely interested in this as well. I am running bbPress right now, and it's just not as integrated as I'd like it to be.

What I'd like to see most is SPF activity showing up in each user's activity on BuddyPress. So when a user makes a forum post, it will show in their activity. This is one thing that is really lacking with the bbPress/BuddyPress integration.

we are still looking for someone with wpmu and/or buddypress experience to join the development team. Andy and I dont use either one and are not familiar enough with them to do much good. Radio is a great help but not a coder.

Hello,

This thread is very timely for me and touches upon issues I am really concerned about. Our WPMU/Buddypress site serves the religious community and every new blog is a Church. Each Church sets up groups for independent ministries such as prison ministries, youth ministries, etc. Our primary desire is to provide each group with a separate and private Group Forum accessible only to the members of the group; and in addition to have a Global Site Forum accessible to all users. -  And like Bob said above we want each user to see their own activity on their profile but we also want each group to see their activity on the group page. – Whew!

I found a real estate community with both BBPress and Simple:Press installed to achieve this end – and apparently it is working because they have 28,000 member realtors and hundreds of separate groups.

I really hope you find someone to help you provide these excellent features! – I am so impressed with your sincerity and willingness to tackle this issue that I am going to install SPF today and hold off on installing BBpress because of it's inherent problems.

Thank you for letting me vent!

no worries!

we have quite a fair number using spf, wpmu and buddypress… sure it can be more tight, just need an expert from those areas to help our small little coding team of two…
