I have enabled registration on my test forum -

 

To register you have to answer the arithmetic question –

 

is that enough to stop automated spam?

 

Is that enough to stop most spam?

 

I have briefly looked at Sabre and Register Plus – do they work with latest WordPress versions?

 

When I registered as a new user, I was shown the WP login page. It would be good to have a link there to return to the forum, for people who wish to continue browsing befor checking their email – or is that weird?

yes, lots of folks use sabre and register plus with wp and spf…

the math question has proven adept at stopping most of the spam bots from registering, but anyone can still manually do it and leave spam.

check out the block admin capability on forum – options – global settings… it can redirect you else besides the backend. also, you can configure other login redirects on forum – components – login and registration.

suggest running through all the options and components to get a feel for whats available. the wiki has info on each, plus there is the popup help for each admin panel.

Thanks- I'll go with the simple option of the arithmetic question and if our club website begins to attract humanised spam (hehehe I'd like to turn 'em into real spam) then i will try Sabre or Register Plus

 

I have used the help pop ups and read through the wiki a fair bit, obviously not enough – thanks for the help
