With this latest update, mods cannot access Forums wp-admin dashboard. We are thrown to this page
wp-admin/admin.php?page=simple-forum/admin/panel-admins/sfa-admins.php
with "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page."
We did try unchecking "Block User Access to WP Admin Pages:", but that had no affect. Cannot find another permission. Would there be a file that needs editing?
I have raised a ticket to get this looked at and hopefully we can get a quick fix into 4.2.1 update
looks like wp slipped another plugin security fix into wp 2.9 that we missed… sorry… you can download a patched file here
Hmm… that didn't work for me – but I guess I might have a different problem:
I want my moderators to also be able to assign users to new user groups – but I don't want them messing around with the other sections in the spf backend – especially not being able to remove MY admin privileges.
So I give them admin access to "Manage user groups" (but not "Manage admins"), but then they can't access the "Your admin options" – where they decide how they want their moderator functions to .. well .. function.
I guess that's one more reason why I think the "Your admin options" is placed wrong – I think it should be available through (or next to) the "Personal options" in "Profile".
Point well taken. We will see what the best alternatives are… (Not in 4.2.1 though)
Well – in the meantime I've found a workaround: for these moderators, I will create one common "manage user group"-user, that they will have the password for. This user can manage user groups, but isn't a moderator.
well, I want to clarify a few things here…
The request to move the admin options is valid, but not sure for the reason specified. If you give a user spf manage user groups capability, they can access their admin options just fine – providing you havent used block admin to prevent them access to the wp admin.
the basic checks for accessing the your admin options stuff is admin or moderator… They are admin if they have any spf admin capability. so you can easily do what you want already – again, but this may limit your options with block admin… you either have to not use that feature, or promote the user to a higher wp role so they have access.
understand the desire not to do that, which is why I believe it is a valid request… but if not using block admin, this is working just fine in my testing… the spf admin stuff was in place long before the block admin and assumed all users had wp admin access like in normal WP… a bit of retooling as requested makes some sense in light of block admin.
actually, after further testing, block admin already checks for this and allow access… so I guess I need more info as I tried exactly what you did and it worked fine..
with your exact use case, it works fine for me in testing on a couple diff sites…
Hmm.. strange.. Seems to work better now after changing the role of the "extra admin user" back and forth a bit… (I also turned the "block admin" off and on again (I have it set so that only user of contributor status or higher have access to the wp backend).
I will have to do little bit more testing, but it certainly looks better now – is this something that should have been fixed with the recent patch to sf-loader-admin.php? Could it be that the pages were plagued with old cache somehow? (I don't use any cache plugins any more, but maybe safari is the culprit)
