are you asking if importing a phpbb forum into your wp blog would delete your existing wp users?  the answer would be no…

Nuno

It doesn't do that anymore. It was originally written to import users into a blog that has no other WP users so it just removed all except the admin.

Now that I have converted it all to a WP Plugin I took the opportunity to make it only remove previously imported phpBB users.

Ok a progress update

Last week I decided to recode the importer as a WordPress plugin as I now need to import a Vbulletin forum as well and it seemed a little daft to write two importers when a plugin with an import API would be a more sensible approach.

So so far I have written the plugin, using a very loose MVC architecture to allow other importers to be more easily slotted in. For the moment I am focusing 100% on the phpbb importer using the API.

Its all going very well. So far I have everything working apart from

  • Permissions
  • General Forum Options

I have a lot of 'bugs' that need fixing but as you can see from the links below its getting there

Main import options

This specifies what type of forum you want to import and the basic database connection options

phpB Import Options

Each importer has its own set of options for defining how the import works

The actual importer

press the button and sit back !

You may notice at the top of the last image some warnings. This whole importer came from my need to import a phpBB forum into SPF, the phpBB forum has previously been imported from Vbulletin and used a plugin in phpBB to handle the authentication.

In my first importer I replicated the custom login functionality to allow WP users to login using different types of authentication. I am going to move this login functionality to a new WP plugin rather than have it in the importer as the importer should be removed after its been used.

The result

Wow… this is truly exciting stuff and is starting to look and sound most impressive.

And a Cambridgeshire lad to boot! Well – maybe not a lad. You may be old and grey like me!

What I am truly impressed with is how few questions you have asked!

Thanks

I have the two best bits of documentation  …

1) The Wiki – The file structure is damn handy

2) The Source code :-)

Its not that often you find a project with documentation as good as your

I tend to like to work things out myself, have been doing this sort of development for 20 years :-)

Should have something for people to play with in a few weeks
