xberserker: This one we know about. If you are up for a small code change there are details of this at this post. It is caused by some left over data from an old blog/topic link.

I've actually manually linked a few blog posts to a forum topic.

Name: forumlink Value: 6@143

I've used that same custom field on at least 2-3 posts.

See screenshot for details. I manually put this in, I didn't use "Link to Forum" section at the bottom of the post. But after I added that Custom Field manually. It did check the box at the bottom of the post.

Pre-4.2 we used a custom field like this. Plus the post id saved in the topic record.

4.2 has a new table defined for this (sflinks) and we no longer use the custom field approach.

oops.. lol, missed that… but we do have a future ticket opened to 'bring it back' in order to support xmlrpc type posting…  could possibly be other implementations too, but that wont be before 5.0 I dont think…

Can I create a post in wordpress but link it to some random post in the forum? I'd rather not have a the post and forum topic be exactly the same.

There is no automated way of doing that. You could massage the data itself of course.
