Adding images (URL) to posts -> archive locally?

Hi,

would it somehow be possible that when a user hyperlinks an image (Insert image.. URL) the image in question would be download to the local server and the post would show that local archived image instead of the original hyperlinked image?

I mean, sometimes external sites stop working, images get removed etc, so I'd like the images would be archived locally so that they wouldn't be missing if an external site goes down.

Hope you understood my point :)

Thank you so much for this great plugin.

What do you mean by 'local'? They can not be any more local than the websites server.
So why not encourage your users to upload their images to that?

I mean when you click that image icon (TinyMCE) "Insert/edit image", the first field is "Image URL".

Let's say my WordPress+SimplePress is located at myserver.com.
A user posts a new topic and adds an image to that post via the Insert/edit image button. He/she has found a nice image from external-not-mine-server.net/image.jpg. He or she types that link to the Image URL field.

When he or she posts that post, the image is loaded everytime externally from external-not-mine-server.net.

Instead, I would like that when he or she presses Insert on that Insert/edit image box, the image would be downloaded automatically from external-not-mine-server.net/image.jpg to myserver.com/images/image.jpg, for example.

Thus, if external-not-mine-server.net goes down or is unreachable, the image he or se inserted would still be available on my forum on that post since it's located on my own server.

English is not my mother tongue, but I hope I explained this clearly enough now… :)

No – it can not be automatically transferred from one server to another. The best way is still to allow and encourage your users to upload from their local machine to your server.
