how would get an email on updates? you have to be a registered user to subscribe to a topic in the forum. allowing guests to subscribe would be a bad way to let spammers get someone since anyone can enter a bogus email…

anyways, it sounds like the options were corrupted somehow during the upgrade… we have had a handful of reports like this…

If you can restore the db to the backup you made before the upgrade and retry, that would be best… If you failed to make a backup as recommended then search the forum here as we have walked through those other couple of users on how to repair it manually. If you cant find the topics, let us know and we can search and find it…

edit your db using phpmyadmin or other tool… find the wp_sfoptions table (your prefix might not be wp_) and then the option_name of sfshowicon and replace the contents with this data
