Twitter and Facebook links are wacky

When my users add their twitter and facebook links in their profile, I have those icons appear below their avatar on each post.

However… the URLs that are created for those icons look like:

http://twitter.com/http://twit…..m/whatever
http://facebook.com/http://www…..s/whatever

In other words, the twitter and facebook url is duplicated. One of my users reported this to me and I can see it too.

the data entered in the profile should not include any url… it should just be their username/account…   ie whatever

Ah OK.

In that case I would suggest that you change the text on the screen to make that more obvious.

Currently: http://Twitter:

Should be: http://www.twitter.com/

That would be a clearer clue to only enter the last part of the URL. Maybe put a short note to that effect on the screen too.

yes, I have a scrap of paper on my desk to make the text labels more accurate, but keep seeming to forget…  the user input should only be the account/user name…

and we likely wouldnt use www in a url like that since that is really deprecated and not needed (and less astethically appealing – though some might disagree on that)… ie http://twitter.com

While you're on this topic, consider discussing the ability to include a Facebook Group in the field instead of just a Username. In your copious free time of course. Wink

For instance, I'd like my Facebook icon to link to this Group instead of a User wall:

Imagine that! Thanks.

Side Note: I had subscribed to this topic, and received email notification of your reply, but my Subscribed button above had no number next to it when I just reviewed a different topic even though you replied last night.
