Hello I have a fresh install of version 4.3.3 and when I check the configuration all storage locations are green and write permissions are available for the image upload folder. I have also check the folder is there via FTP and it is indeed there and the folder file attributes are set to 755.

I get the following mesaage when I click on insert/edit image then  the camera browse icon:

Warning: opendir(/web1/user27859/website/wp-content/forum-image-uploads/testmember/signature/)[function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory in /web1/user27859/website/wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/editors/tinymce/plugins/filemanager/fm-support.php on line 403

Unable to create the '/web1/user27859/website/wp-content/forum-image-uploads/testmember/signature/' directory – please check your permissions.

Any idea what is wrong please?

please consult forum – configuration – storage locations and make sure you have set up valid storage for the image uploads… you should have two green marks by the uploads….  I know you said you did, but the error message says they dont exist…  are they in wp-content? if so, whats the permission on that folder?

can you try changing wp-content to 755?

also can you check the permissions on testmember and signatures?  they should be 0755…

something is preventing those dirs from being recognized…  can you see who owns them?

Those folders do not exist, testmember is the name of the user who attempted to post the image to the forum. The problem appears to be the creation of the folders, I am unable to set wp-content to 755, when I change the permissions using an FTP program it simply reverts back to 750. I have successfully added a signature to testmember which works fine.

This is most peculair! Can I save the forum and re-install over the top perhaps?

you can just reupload the forum files… all data should be safe, unless you customized any code files….

I have made some progress. It would appear that the php code is failing to create directories when it needs to. If I create the directories manually for each user it works, obviously that is not practical.

It seems like my service provider does not allow php code from the simple forum to initiate cmod. The weird thing is that blog posts allow image uploads so wordpress has a different set of permissions.

Is it possible to actually disable the ability to upload images and just allow url's such as photobucket or a user's own website etc.

That would solve the problem to be honest.

Regards

Uploading is a permission (well 3 permissions of course) so it is esay to revoke the privilege.

If I revoke the priveledge using the forum controls how does the interface change? I would still like users to be able to insert an image that resides at an external url such as a photobucket account if possible.

The browse button will disappear from the image, media and link dialogs.
