I have made some customizations to the Olota theme to better match my site's styling. All in all, I'm just about there, apart from one nagging issue… I cannot seem to get blockquote styling to appear properly.
The default version would just push the blockquote container out to the edge of the forum container. When users began quoting each other it began to look even worse.
I have edited the sf-post-src.css to a point where the blockquote container looks good in the forum post tables, but it's compressing the width of the left column much to my dismay.
Examples:
This thread has no blockquotes within it and displays properly.
This thread contains a blockquote, which in turns compresses the user details column on the left.
I actually went through and edited double blockquote posts because they started breaking through
How can I achieve blockquote styling that behaves nicely?
I simply want a blockquote container that fits within the post cell with about a 20px margin left and right, and can have multiple replies within it which also fit within this container.
Hopefully I've explained this issue adequately enough. If not, please follow up with the needed details.
P.S. Perhaps I messed somethign up, but I even tried to apply this forum's blockquote styling to mine, based off of the css I obtained via firebug. No dice.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me for obtaining pleasing blockquote styling. :)
No. I've been stumped with this problem for quite some time. I just finally got around to posting for help.
I'm using Firefox 3.6.6 and Safari 5.0 on a mac with OSX v. 10.6.4. The forum appears janky in both browsers.
I've attached a screenshot depicting the blockquote issue alongside how it should display.
The top image shows a normal post thread where the user column is around 120px wide. The avatar sits in there nicely and everything looks as intended.
The pic below shows how a blockquote compresses the user info column by about 50px. The only thing appearing to keep the table column from collapsing is the avatar itself.
I wil try and come back to this but at the moment your site wont load and is timing out my browser.
What version of SP is this by the way? And is this the version you installed or have you updated from a prior version and – if an an update – did you have the same issue in the older version?
And, I assume you have but I will ask anyway – have you checked that there is nothing in your theme styles that is having a knock-on effect.
I'm running version 4.3. The blockquote issue has been present for
awhile.
The theme I'm running is Thesis 1.7.
I haven't
noticed anything from thesis bleeding over, but who knows… Another
thing I've noticed, is that there seems to be a few other mentions of
this within the SP Forums. Whether or not those people are using Thesis
as well, I do not know.

so the answer to my question was that you have upgraded from a prior version where you also had this problem.

Thesis seems to be the theme that is reported as troublesome most often. As far as I am aware it is in use by rather a large number of our users who seem to overcome their issues. But it remains a problem area for us.

There are? I honestly do not recall any ongoing or regular problems with blockquoting.
Managed to look at those posts on your site this morning using Firefox on my Mac and I have to say they looked perfect.
We have slowly been trying to deal with the age old problem of HTML not wrapping text with no spaces in it which HAS been an issue often reported simply because that is the way HTML renders in all browsers.
We have made some further improvements and adjustments to that in the next update which will be along, hopefully, any day now. This might help you as well. However, the reason I asked if this was a problem to you older than SP 4.3 was specifically to find out if this could be the cause of your problem. Clearly this is not the case but the next update may help.
Thanks for the reply Yellow Swordfish. I became a bit busy and was lazy about checking this thread's progress.
The problem's not a major one, but I am somewhat of a perfectionist. I like to get things as close to perfect (in my eyes) as possible. To the average user, I'm sure they don't even notice it. I just wish there was some way I could gain control over the blockquote styling.
I haven't upgraded yet, but I'll be doing so this weekend. Maybe that will fix things. :)
Mr Papa,
I became a Thesis fan late last year and since then I've had to implement a few little fixes here and there to make it play nicely with other plugins. All in all, I absolutely love the theme, but I am well aware of its ability to dominate other plugins' styling.
Thesis only seems to be gaining steam, so although it may be a problem, I'm thinking it may be a problem to be mindful of. However, for the most part, SPF seems to integrate pretty well with Thesis. I'm just a little pickier than most perhaps. ;)
Thanks for the attention guys. I'll try the update and see if it has any effect.
