when you downloaded the archives, extract them on your computer…   you should have a simple-forum folder with other folders within it…   just upload that simple-forum dir and contents to the plugins dir on your server and you should be good to go…

Do I upload them in "install plug-in" in WP? I am sorry for asking such simple questions but I just need to be sure that I am doing this right

so please explain what you did…  after grabbing the download pack (was it styles, skins or icons?) and extracting, did you have simple-forum directory on your compuer? and did you upload that directory and all its contents to the wp-content/plugins directory?

and are you logging in at http://yoursite.com/wp-login.php or other?  obviously, replace the yoursite.com with your domain…

I uploaded all the contents to wp content from my comp after extracting from the download. I then followed the instructions to make sure in the forum configuratuion that the smileys, avatas were all ok.  I think that I may have accidently moved the index.php file on my server to a different folder by accident. Could this be the problem? Where should the index.php file be?

first, as mentioned, the simple-forum for upload goes in the plugins folder – not wp-content…

depends… there is likely an index.php in many dirs… but yes, there should be an index.php in the base directory… you may also have an empty index.php in your wp-content folder and the plugins folder
