as you can see, I have no problem with this on my dev site. This is structure-green and default icons with a pinned topic. Also pinned a post and it showed as pinned (highlighted – we don't show an icon)

What do you mean by "highlighted – we don't show an icon"
The pin.png in my default icon set is a paper clip image not a push pin.
Other icons show just fine (watch topic, etc.).
I just happened to visit another forum that had a pinned post and realized no icon was showing on mine.
I'm only customizing css and haven't touched any of the other files.
No you were right.
We highlight the post content and show the paperclip icon up on the iconstrip next to the permalink icon.
if you don't see the paperclip then how about a link to that post

They're should all be pinned, except first forum group -

I presume pinning post means it stays at top so it's always visible first?

pinning post means the post stays at the top of the topic… pinning the topic means the topic stays at the top of the forum… which one do you want and which one did you do?
Visit I am trying to figure out what you are doing… you gave two links above… neither of them is a post… which is why I asked if you are trying to pin a topic or pin a post? and pinning a post has no effect on the forum display (ie your links)
Under what conditions is the pin icon supposed to show?
I thought that a pin icon would show on title bars of topics (or forums?) that include a pinned post.
The links I posted show a page of topics (or forums?) to which a pinned post has been made.
Click on topic (or forum?) title bar and open it to view the pinned post.
