there are pinned topics AND pinned posts…

if you are looking at a topic, you see a bunch of posts… a pinned post will show at the top of that list of posts…

if you are looking at a forum, you see a bunch of topics… a pinned topic will show at the top of that list… pinning a post has no effect on the ordering of topics…

I don't have any pin icons showing on my forums.

I want to know when and where the pin icon should show.

Does it indicate a pinned post?

Or is it a button for pinning an existing post?

you can pin a post (assuming you have permission) when you make the post – its on the form…

you can also pin a topic or post using the admin tools…

pinned posts will show an icon on the post icon row (with quote, report, edit, etc)…

pinned topics will show an icon on the topic name row, on the far right…

The icon isn't showing. That's what I'm trying to figure out, why it's not.

How do I trouble shoot? Where is code to show icon? What should code be?

Unread post icons don't show either.

I've set permissions for users to "Can edit own posts until reply", but no "comment" or "post" links show for users.

I haven't tampered with code only css. Why aren't icons or comment/post links showing?

Currently all posts are pinned as evident by yellow highlighting, but no paperclip icon shows in bar above post.

But after I pin posts again, icon shows. So re-pinning appears to fix that problem.

Also discovered that selecting "Reply to Topics" turns on "Post Reply". A bit confusing terminology, but problem resolved nonetheless.

I've pinned intitial post, and set Post Settings to "Sort Posts Newest to Oldest".
Now most recent post is numbered "2", and oldest post is numbered (however many total posts there are).

The numbering system is confusing. Is there any way to turn it off?
I'd like to have posts numbered, but if sorting from newest to oldest posts, inital pinned post should be number 1, then all the others should be in descending order down to number 2, not in ascending order beginning with number 2.

hmmm… not sure I agree with your numbering thoughts… Why would you not want the first post made post #1? and the 5th post made be #5?

Its not an ordering number, its the nth post made in the topic.. If you are sorting newest first, then that number of the first post is the number of posts made to the topic…

sorry, no way currently to turn it off except for editing the core code…

I DO WANT the 1st post made to be number 1 and the 5th to be number 5.

But post numbering is Ascending from top of page even when set to 'newest to oldest' (which is Descending order).

With 1st post pinned at top it stays number 1, but with Post Settings set to "Sort Posts Newest to Oldest"

with a total of 4 posts,

the 4th post is number 2, the 3rd post is number 3, and the 2nd post is number 4.

This is very confusing to new users, and to the tech illiterati.

So how do I change core code, or better yet, correct it for descending order when posts are set 'newest to oldest'.

argh… mea culpa… I was wrong…

That number is indeed simply a post on page counter… I had thought it was the post number but now… so yes, it will always just number from 1 to n posts starting with the first one…

so, it would be quite extensive to change that… but if you want to remove it, you can comment out its display in simple-forum/forum/sf-topic-components.php, around line 436
