I wasn't sure what you meant by your first or third suggestion, so I followed the second one.

I am certain that my forum.php file has div id="column" class="forum" in it. I then used the entire contents of header.php to replace the get_header() part of the forum.php.

No changes.

Am I doing something incorrectly?

wait.  you said in post 9, that there was no div column in the forum.php.  now there is???  if the div column was in there, it just needed modification NOT also adding the header.  adding the header was ONLY if the div column was in the header.php.

after whatever changes you made, have you told WP to have the forum page use your new template file??  you do that on the wp edit page panel.

If you want to short circuit this, you can PM me a temp wp admin account if you want and I can fix it up.

Oh. Miscommunication here. No, okay so the forum.php file that I made, as per the tutorial instructions, had a portion called div id="fullwidth" so when you made your first suggestion I made THAT into div id="column" class="forum"

Regardless, I did not know that I had to tell WP to use the forum page as my new template file. I just now did that.

All in all, the issue is fixed. http://chokinghazards.net/?page_id=211

Thank you very much for the help. I appreciate it.

Was this feature requested?

I dont like it at all, and if it was going to be forced on us i think the admin panel shoudl have a simple Show sidebar Yes/no option.

Insatead we are all having a heck of a time removing something we didnt need. Pretty soon i think "simple" should be removed from the title as this is getting to be a really big plugin.

skoubah, you should read up on how WordPress works. The theme layout, including sidebar, is all in the hands of your WP theme and WordPress. Every post and page appears on a page template in your theme. by default, every page created in wp uses the default page template file. If you want ANY page to have a different appearance, it must be provided by your wp theme. the best themes build in a full width page template file.

I have no idea how you expect SPF to automatically remove a sidebar for every possible WP theme out there.

skouba, as Mr. Papa stated this is a plugin for wordpress. If the theme you have has a sidebar you may want the sidebar, a lot of people do. there are ads, navigation ect. Removing the sidebar is a Mod, you should be grateful there is support here to help you modify your theme to remove the sidebar. These guys are working hard to provide a free plugin, it's bad form to complain they wont modify your theme automatically as well.

I thank you again Mr. Papa for your assistance!

Papa, I am having a similar issue.  It seems like no matter what I change, it makes zero difference.

I've ran through all of the steps in the tutorial.  I've created forum.php, removed the call to sidebar.php, and edited my style.css.  For some reason, I just can't get it to work.

I'm working on an up and coming website, and I would love to use your service/product.  Can you please help me?  Possibly take a look at it? Laugh

The Website is:

after you create a forum.php (or whatever you called your custom page template) you have to edit the page the forum appears on and change the template thepage is using… it likely still says default template… in the dropdown menu for templatest on the edit page, select the template you created and save the page…

I double checked the edit page and it says I'm editing the right template.  I've done the steps, but still nothing.  Maybe you could take a look at my actual file?

You got skype or something bro?  I think we could learn alot from each other.
