Trying to get full-page forum in Thesis 1.6

Greetings Simple:Press Masters!

I'm a rookie at ths (but very trainable) so please forgive the elementary questions.

I'm trying to create the custom page and full-page width forum in Thesis. I found your Wiki tutorial and followed it, creating the forum.php file in Notepad that I uploaded to my Thesis 1.6 folder on the server. The custom template does not show up in the templates menu on the right. I did refresh my browser. (Firefox.)

I added the code exactly as indicated to the custom css stylesheet, and named the class on the page. No change.

The only difference I saw was that the Tweetmeme icon was gone but I could see part of the left corner of another field emerging on the right.

Is there a way to do this with Thesis OpenHook that bypasses working with the CSS editor that is easier?

Which brings up more questions: How do I get rid of the TweetMeme icon on this page and the bookmark icons on the bottom of the post?

Please point me to any other posts or pages that will help me learn this. I am most grateful.

Many many thanks!

well, cant see the forum. you link redirects me back to home page…

but more than likley, you page template is putting the tweetme/bookmark stuff there… you will need to remove it from the custom page you are attempting to create…

as to the custom page, you need to make sure to get the page header info at the very top correct and then upload the page to your theme directory… the name you give the file (forum.php) shouldnt already exist… then wahtever you put for template name should appear in the template dropdown… and you should probably start forum.php by copying your page.php…

the css and classes shown in the example are just that – an example… more than likely, your theme uses different classes and strucutre (that example is based on wp kubrick default theme)….

if you can get the custom page up, we can help with the css… but firefox with the firebug addon are great for customizing css

Thanks.

I think I understood all of that, but not sure.I'll revisit the instructions.

I downloaded Firebug.

The forum is currently "locked down." If I remove that, will you be able to see it?

no, locked down shouldnt matter… that pretty much just makes it read only… is the page published? or private or in draft?

My dashboard says the page is published.

Found the problem, I think.

I didn't correctly name the .php file within the file. Changed that and the file name. Now it showed up in the dropdown menu on the right of the page.

I now have a full-page forum! But it looks too wide for the page. Is there a way to adjust that?

I still have the TweetMeme icon and social media bookmarking icons on the top and bottom. Have to figure that out.

Thanks for your guidance.

will look at the site…

but again, now look at the custom page you created…  is it using template tags within there for the tweetme or social media stuff? if so, need to remove it… if not, need to check the settings on the plugins for those two and see if you can exclude certain pages (ie the forum pag) from bein used…  its the theme or plugin doing that, not spf…

I still cant see the forum page, as I get redirected back to main page…

are you running any redirection plugins?

also, you are running wp super cache which is not compatible… do you not see a warning in the spf admin pages?  if you did and disabled it for the forum page, did you remember to remove you current cache?  it might be affecting the view since after you disable the caching for the forum page, you have to delete the cache to remove any current cached pages…

I got TweetMeme and the bookmarking icons off. Thank you.

Yes, I am running a redirection plugin, Permalink Redirect. I may not have the settings set properly.

I do not see a warning in the SPF admin page. I added the forum page permalink to the disabled string. I just deleted the current cache but it still looks too wide.

Sorry — working several learning curves at once here.

Thanks for all your help.

tell your redirection plugin in to ignore the forum page like you did with wp super cache…

problem is that these things all see the forum as a single wp page (which it technically is – just different dynamic content on each page load) so the redirection/caching messes it up…
