Hi! I'd like to find out whether there are downloadable themes for Simple:Press forum. The 12 themes which were given are good, but not the most beautiful I have ever seen:) Or there is no more themes and I should edit them – this is the only way? Thx for helping!

We do ask people if they would be willing to share their SPF skins – and we have seen plenty of great ones – but sadly most seem reluctant to do so.

Can someone tell me how I can go about editing the default theme? I can't for the life of me find the source files of it.

When I do find the contributing files, I'd gladly share anything I create with the community. It takes someone/a few people to throw something into the pot first. :)

all the skins (14) that we do are available for download on the downloads page…

any user contributed skins can be found on our skins/icons page but note, there are currently not any 4.2 skins available though one user has contributed one – we just need to get it up on the page.

any skin you are using can be found in simple-forum/styles/skins/xxxx where xxxx is the name of the skin… there will be a src file and a compressed file… read the wiki about creating a custom skin.

What about the physical structure of the forum's pages? Where's that handled?

physical structure? you mean where are the elements output? many, many files… start with sf-page.php and then follow it down as it figures out page type and outputs the page content…

but worth noting there is only one forum page… its the wp page the forum appears on. Every forum 'view' is dynamically created on this single page using the wp the_content filter… all the 'stuff' you see in the url, ie forum name, topic name, etc are just simple url rewrite black magic. you are still really only on the single forum page, but with dynamic content.

did I answer your question?

should note that in v5, the one following the compatibility release for wp 3.0, we will be switching to a templating system (at least thats the current plan) which should make it much, much simpler to arrange elements how you want…
