so when people hit the attachments button in SP they will actually be adding their photos to our WP library but the thumbnails will display in the person's SP post?

this is an important feature, there's really not much use in touting the ability to attach files to posts if the display options are limited to viewing one photo at a time.

we're on the hook at this point and this doesn't seem like an easy problem to resolve.

I don't know as much about this subject as Mr Papa, but no, the images aren't stored in the normal place which is what will make gallery plugins difficult.

I do know however that lots of people use NextGen gallery with SP, have you given it a try? I think all you would need to set it up forum wise would be to enable the shortcodes for it..

its up to  you whether your show attached images as full images or as thumbnails... dont want the thumbnails, just turn off the option... so just have each image come out full width (display width, not image width), one after each other...

uploaded files are not stored in the wp uploads location...  the wp ability to do that on front end has existed a whole lot less than simple press has...  changing ours now to use the wp image uploader is possible but has huge backwards compat issues...  simple press has been around since 2006 with file uploads (in various configurations)...

Is the NextGen plugin installed in the SimplePress or WordPress plugin directory?

I've tried uploading it to the SimplePress directory and it's being rejected.

NextGen is a plugin for WP... so it goes in wp-content/plugins and is activated like a standard wp plugin...

I'm just not seeing where I would even begin to make this work.  Might have a developer friend work on it for me.

I have not used it much either...  All I know is that we have multiple users that use it for displaying images and galleries in the forum...  not sure how they or their users get the images into next gen... I was assuming it had a front end upload capability for users...  then you would use their shortcodes to make the images or galleries show up in the forum post...

The best way to describe the functionality we need is this.

Forum members need to be able to attach multiple images to a post (This can already be done)

Then we need to be able to view those images in a slideshow format (Perhaps you click the first image, it pops up in a lightbox with arrows to move to the next photo in the gallery)

Currently, thumbnails are displayed and it's open, close, open, close... and so on.

Is there anyone available that can create this as a custom modification?

yes, I understood what you would like...  It can certainly be done via new plugin or probably better as a modification to the file uploader plugin - the api certainly supports it...

but, its not a trivial matter...  a pretty sizable amount of programming and design work to do... I have made a note about it for future consideration, but its not currently on the roadmap...

@yellow-swordfish is currently away on vacation...  He will be back in a just over a week...  We can have a discussion on it upon his return and if you like, we could work up a quote for you to implement such a feature...

Thanks, I'd be interested in hearing what you'd charge to do that.  We have no choice but to keep considering our options but if we have none and you can do it then please let me know the price.

This is actually something that will drive us back to vBulletin and will keep our other site (www.multirotorforums.com) with vBulletin if there is no solution.
