Hi  -

We have an issue with polls and need your expert help to resolve this ASAP.

Our usergroup "BETATesters" has "Standard Access" permissions.

Withing "Standard Access" we have set those permission to ALLOW viting in polls in forum posts.

Yet all of our testers tell us they re unable to vote.

Here's a screencast video of the permissions: http://screencast.com/t/PaxWtply

Can you please advise?

Thanks much!

sorry, on the road and not really able to view the video with the hotel wifi...  but couple questions...

From what I could view in the video, have you really assigned the standard access with the beta test usergroup to the forum (on forum - forums - manage groups and forums)where you have enabled polls?   and have you verified the user in question is actually a member of the usergroup (by viewing on forum -usergroups - manage usergroups)?

What happens when they try to vote?

in the poll options, what do you have set for the tracking method for votes?

Andy will be able to view the video tomorrow morning and may have more insight...

Hi -

Thanks so much for your reply.  I've attached two screenshots sowing both the permission sets as well as the specific forum permissions.

The BETATest users are assigned the "standard" permission set - which specifically allows users to vote in polls.

Also - in the Forum Permissions  thie specific parent and sub forum are also set to assign BETAtesters the "standard" permission set - which of course allows users to vote in polls.

Probably going to need Mr Papa on this one but... there were a couple of other questions he asked to which the answer might prove useful and i am also wondering if it might be useful if you could create an account we could log in with as a member of that user group plus a link to a post with a poll so we can look at the source in case there is anything to see.. If that is possible then please PM credentials to both myself and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.

on an airplane at 34,000 feet so likely not to get chance to look at until tomorrow...

but the other answers to my questions would be quite helpful, especially the tracking one...

might also be worth going to forum - toolbox - housekeeping and clear the auths cache to see if any luck with it....

Hi -

Thanks for checking into this - to answer your other questions:

Q: "What happens when they try to vote:?

A:  Nothing - they are unable to click the dot - it's just a bar.

Q: "in the poll options, what do you have set for the tracking method for votes"?

A: It was set to "Cookie & IP" - but I realized this may have been at least part of the issue - since two BETATester members live in the same household (and therefore may be block because of the IP?)

This morning I changed it to just "Cookie" - hoping this may resolve part of the issue.

Questions please:

  • Would this mean I would still need to reset the poll?
  • Can polls be reset?
  • Is there any way to duplicate a poll without having to rewrite it every time?
  • Are polls editable?

Thanks very much.

yes, polls are editable... see the forum - polls - manage polls admin panel...

not sure what you mean by reset... but if you mean remove votes, counts, etc, then yes on the manage poll panel...   a poll will not need to be reset if you change the tracking method...

remember, if the two members are using the same computer, the cookie will be set... if they have different log ins, and you are requiring users to be logged in to vote, then the tracking can just be user id and is actually the recommendation... you would only use the other tracking options is non logged in users can vote...

why would you duplicate a poll?  just put the shortcode for the existing poll into the post you want it..  seems counter productive to have the same poll, though a a duplicate, running together...  if you want to restart a poll from fresh, just use the manage poll panel and clear out any votes...
