I have two threads, each with members subscribed and watching, what happens to them if I merge thread 2 into thread 1? Do the people who subscribed or are watching thread 2 become subscribed to thread 1?

Hey kvr,

That would be my guess, but wouldn't want to say for sure. Steve or Andy could shed some light on this one, or if you're feeling brave, you could always make a backup and give it a try 🙂

Actually, I think this might not be the case. And it is both an odd and an interesting situation.

A subscription is tied to a topic not a post. So if some of the posts are moved or deleted then it makes no difference to the subscription data.

The Move Posts forum tool does not, naturally, have an option to move ALL posts. I do understand that can be achieved using the current options but it is not a currently defined method in it's own right. So it is actually not expecting a complete set of posts to be moved. I believe if this does happen then when the last post in the set is moved, if the topic is now empty then it will be removed bit almost certainly with no reference to the fate of the posts. In other words - just as if the topic had been deleted. And it will, in turn, delete any subscription data it holds.

It is an interesting one and perhaps our best response would be to plan for a complete 'merge' method to be proper;y supported.

As a warning about this, by the way, do remember that if you move posts from one topic to another that already has posts, then the new display order of the combined topic will be the post ID - which is the equivalent of the post date.
