TinyMCE RIch Text Breaks editing

I just upgraded to the latest Wordpress and simple press versions. I got a silver membership to be able to add the editor bar back into simple press. Prior to uploading the TinyMCE editor I could at least type in the text area when creating or editing a forum post. However after adding it I still do not have a control bar/editing bar and you can not type in the text area either. If I disable the TinyMCE editor plugin then the ability to type into the text area returns. I have tried to search for past posts on issues with the TinyMCE editor but nothing I came across was very detailed or helpful to fix my issue.

Thank you for your help.

updated from which version of wp?

I think it was wp 3.9 where wp drastically changed how tinymce worked in wp...  it broke many themes and plugins...  if you came from pre that version, make sure the themes and plugins have been updated too...

you can test by a temp switch to the default wp theme and see if any better... if not, then disable other wp plugins and see if working...

wordpress was already at 4.x and everything works in wordpress itself. I changed wordpress to default theme and re-enabled the TinyMCE plugin with the same result. I have also upgraded all plugins to latest version and uninstalled ones that there is no currant development on.

The TinyMCE plugin has to be deactivated for any editing tools to be visible. Then it seems to default to the html ones.

Ok I figured it out.. cforms was killing it. I went back and started deactivating all the wordpress plugins and it started working when I deactivated it. It seems it isn't under developement anymore though it is still compatable with wordpress so I will leave it deactivated..

any suggestions for a good forms plugin?

Now that you mention it, I think we did have another user with a cforms issues..  there are lots of different ones out there...  just check the wp plugin repository...  not sure how much capability you need... but I have used contact form 7 successfully...

While it is true that cforms is no longer under development and that does mean, sadly, finding a replacement, I am guessing that it is just the bit that allows you to add a tinyMCE button to the editing toolbar that is actually broken because it is not supported by either the latest TinyMCE or the WP wrapper for TinyMCE which is what Simple:Press uses. If that can be deactivated it is possible that cForms will continue to work allowing you to change over in a more leisurely way. Just a thought.

I think I deleted it already.. just have to bite the bullet and get a new form's plugin that is currently supported. I was only using it for the one contact form on the whole website so not a huge deal to just replace it and create a new form.
