If you are a user of the All in One SEO pack plugin for wordpress, the recent 1.6.1 version is NOT compatible with SPF.  It will function but not properly.

AIOSEO has added a new canonical url feature but its not compatible with wp plugins that use dynamic pages such as SPF.  It will not report to search engines that ALL SPF pages have the same url which is the base forum page.  This will be bad for SEO with the search engines since it gives you duplicate content.

We have been in contact with Michael Torbert, AIOSEO plugin author, and he has added a new API that will allow dynamic page generation plugins to update the proper canonical url.

So we will work up a patch for this.  If you use AIOSEO and SPF, you will want to disable the canonical url feature in AIOSEO until we have a patch available.  If you dont use them, then nothing to worry about.

Does this also affect Platinum SEO Plugin users since it shares most of the code base with it and also has Canonical URL Feature.

no, since, to my knowledge, platinum seo has not introduced an api for other plugins to affect its output.

well, to restate – if its outputting canonical urls, it likely wont work since they cant know about the dynamic page generation of spf and other plugins (ecommerce for example). this patch allows aioseo to continue to use canonical urls.

Is the patch still necessary  I did not use the AIOSEO version mentioned – I jumped from an older one to a newer one.. if I am on AIOSEO 1.64 w/ SPF 4.0.4?

Only if you are using the AIOSEO Canonical URLs feature.

of course. after you added the two new files, its telling you that you need to upgrade – exactly what the text says. Did you go into the forum admin and click on upgrade??
