"Forum not set – unable to create post"

I have 110 forums in seven groups on my website.  Out of those 110, I cannot add a post to 4 of them in 3 different groups.  The message I get is "Forum not set – unable to create post".  No matter what I try to do — delete and reinstall the forums, put them in different positions, reword them, etc. — the problem continues and I get the same message.  What is wrong with these 4 forums that make them unpostable?

Confused

110 forums? wow!

this indicates that when the post was created, the forum id was not passed along with the post info so it was unknown which forum it belongs to.

so why would the forum info not be available? not sure… could you verify that these four forums do indeed have a valid forum id? you can look on the manage forums panel or directly into your db.

could you give us a link to one of the forums you cannot add a post to?

SIMPLE PRESS SUPPORT QUESTIONS

The website address is http://skeptics-soapbox.com/. The malfunctioning forums are:

these two forums under “JUSTICE and INJUSTICE”

Beware of punishment with a broad brush.

Should statutory rape even be a crime?

This forum under “HYPOCRITES and FRAUDS”:

What about the propaganda that addiction is one of the greatest dangers faced by mankind today?

and this forum under “DIET, NUTRITION and FOOD”:

There are literally dozens of pills and concoctions to help an overweight person lose weight. Do any of them work?

My daughter-in-law was somehow able to post a new topic under the first three as "tbone", but she doesn't know what she did and could not edit her post or reply to it or add a new one. It was sort of a mystery or a fluke. Any insight you could give me into this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Skeptic

well, did you take a look at the forum ids like I asked?

second, cant really look much since guests cant post. Could you create me a temp user account and PM me the details?

third, you really should fix up your wp theme as its drastically affecting the appearance of the forum. your wp theme is adding a lot of extra borders around forum elements. For starters, I would the following line to your wp style.css file

.art-article #sforum th, .art-article #sforum td {border: 0 !important;}

there is some extra padding/margin added too but thats a start.

Mr. Papa,

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I am a total novice at this and a web designer designed the page under my direction, so I sort of like the way it looks, you know, art is in the eye of the beholder, etc.

Having said that, I did not look at the forum ID's because I didn't know how or exactly what you meant.

Second, I will try to create a temp user account for you.  It will ask me for your Email address, to send you a password.  Could you give me an email address to use?

Thanks, SkepticSurprised

use support at simplepressforum dot com

start by taking a look at the forum – forums – manage groups and forums spf admin panel. each forum (ie row) displays the forum id.

All four malfunctioning forums do have ID numbers.  How can I tell if they're valid or not?  Or is any number that appears under the ID column valid?  If so, then what's wrong?

What about the slug? Could that have been removed? Check in Edit forums for this.

They all had slugs.  Three of the slugs were missing "?" at the end of the sentence, but adding them that didn't seem to change anything.  When I went into the "TALK BACK FORUM" page and clicked on the malfunctioning forum topic, there was a line that says "There is no such forum as ……", even though there appears to be one, with an ID and a slug.

slugs missing '?'

what does that mean? slugs wouldnt have a ? in them…  in fact all punctuation should be stripped out..

so which ones arent working?  from four listed above, they all have posts… I have no trouble viewing 'punishment witha broad stroke'…

might need to compare the forum slug in the db via phpmyadmin here with what we are seeing… wonder if there is some encoding going on…
