hi there.. i've just installed simpleforum and i hope it does the trick for us.
we're looking to have things setup so that the forum is hidden from non members, but once they login then the forum appears.
We want to use the members page thats on on our site just now… and when members click to access this page they get a simple login box.
Once they login the forum then appears on the same page.
Would this be possible foru us, and easy enough to setup?
Can any7one give us any simple instructions please?
Thanks a lot
Ronnie
I am guessing that might be hard to do… not at all familiar with the plugin you are using… but, as you may have noticed the wp page the forum appears on is blank (as far as wp is concerned)… when the page loads, we dynamically load all the content from the database…
however, if the forum page is hidden behind a password protected page or some membership plugin, it would only be visible to them… I just dont think you can make it appear on the same page without modifications of the core code…
If this plugin of yours give you some template tags, hooks, or callable functions to determine visibility rules, the mods might not be that big, or you might be able to use our program hooks to suppress forum display – not sure though…
thank you for getting back to me so quickly
i'm a complete noob so can't really work things out on my own… just yet
maybe i could just use the forum login as the single login for the site… in which case it would be handy for the forum categories, and forums list to be hidden until login was carried out.
Do you know if that would be possible?
Thanks again
by definition, the forum login is EXACTY the same as the site login… we are a plugin for wp, thus we share the same user db, the same auth, etc etc…
yes and it seems to do the trick rather well, i'd prefer just to remain wit the forum login for the site
what do you reckon on having the forums hidden to non members? is it possible?
Absolutely. Look into the Manage Permissions where you can make use of the default 'no access' permission set and assign it to Guests in your forum definitions.
i think i;m going mad…. i can't find the link within the WP dashboard that will allow me into the forum admin/management… i've looked through all the wordpress menus and can't find it. Where should it be?
