Is there a way to merge 2 topics….say for instances when a topic is started already but someone starts another one about the same thing….

I know in vbulletin etc you can just merge the 2, can it be done in simplepress?

Not currently although it has been asked for before so it is on the request list somewhere…

This feature would be highly demanded by me also – after fixing all the open bugs, sure…

on the list, unsure yet if it makes 4.1… just started our first level triage today and its still possible for 4.1, but no guarantees

Is it possible to merge two forums? I.e. I am currently cleaning up the forum structure. I have a "general" subforum which I would like to merge/integrate into the "small talk" subforum. Is it possible to move all posts of a certain forum to an other?

no, not currently possible, but we have an open ticket for such a feature… not sure when it will get included, but not 4.1

Ok, I just got into a situation where being able to merge topics would have been really handy. Now I need a work around, or else I'm stuck with a messy forum.

Is there any way to move posts to an EXISTING topic? If so, how? When I try to move posts, it always requires me to create a new topic.

If not through the interface, can I change a posts location through the database? If so, what would I need to do to make sure I don't make a bigger mess?

currently, you can split a post off of a topic and create a new topic. But, there is no facility for merging topics or moving existing posts to an existing topic.

mechanically, its not that difficult, but it will likely present a problem with ordering…. posts within a topic are sorted by post id not date… this is immensely more efficient than sorting by date order… and it so happens that within a topic, you get the same order as if it was sorted by date… so when merging or moving to an existing, especially if it were multiple posts, you wont get an expected sort order.

you can of course, move them manually in the db, but that wont help the sort order. you need to fix up the post and the two affected topics. then you need to rebuild the topic and post indexes.
