does googlemail know you are doing this?

what it looks like is that googlemail is recieving a request from your hosting box, to send mail to a domain it does not host, and is therefore refusing the connection.

I'm not your web host, so I don't know what their requirements are, but I do host.

This setup on your DNS records strikes me as completely wrong. Your MX records should point to your Dreamhost mail server.

Dreamhost offers the option to host the mail at google (google aps) which is free and don't consume your ram and space at your host. This option is by the way available to everybody. Therfore the mx record is changed to google.
