I've installed my forum just fine, but I'm having a problem getting it to display properly.

My site is starvedrockonline.com and the permalink to the forum was set to

http://starvedrockonline.com/?…..age_id=118 by default.

if you click on forum, it displays within the theme. Unfortunately, I don't want the side bars to display. Is there anyway to fix this? All I have done is created a new page in wp called forum and I have the slug in the forum options set to 'forum'

My goal ulitmately is to have a simple forum (with the option to enable advanced features down the road)that looks similar to http://gearjunkie.com/forum/ and I was hoping simple press could do this. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure it out.

Any help or suggestions are highly appreciated.

WP uses templates which, grouped together, make up your WP 'theme'. You can create your own templates and this is what has to be done – an alternative 'page.php' template for the forum.
On the right in our tutorials section there is a guide on how to do this although it is pretty general.
Some themes come with a wide or full page template already so you can check for that first just in case.
