Turning Off Specific Icons

It took me a while, but I finally discovered how to turn off specific icons and thought other users might want to know…

I wanted to turn off the "Report" button since many of our members kept using it instead of the "Quote" button right next to it. That, and because we have never received a valid questionable post report.

To make this button not display, don't look under the Style admin tab. Just edit permissions for the user types you do not want seeing this button to disallow reporting of questionable posts.

Perhaps this is obvious, but I hope it helps someone.

We try and encourage people to check through all the options but judging by the number of topics raised here that are covered in the admin the majority clearly do not. Sadly, these are probably the same people who do not bother to read documentation either so that isn't the answer. But or those that DO search the forums then thanks.

Jim,

Thanks for posting that, it did help me. Sometimes it can be difficult to find the exact setting you might be looking for due to the vast number of options within the forum admin. I found this post by searching for "report" and it was exactly the answer I was looking for.

We realise there are a lot of options and settings and we also know it's niot really the 'WP' way but there again it allows you to do so much more in terms of getting it to work how you want it and so many of those have been the result of user requests.

Worth spending a little time going through them and reading some of the contextual help as well.

Glad you found what you needed.

Found this helpful to, and I wanted to chime is not as a "It's too dificult to find some items…" but more of a "can't believe you both built all these options into such a great forum".

Many kudos for this all.

forum admin > Manage Permissions. Select the permission set fo0r whose users you wish to have the report button removed and edit it. Turn off 'Can Report Posts'.
