Just tried to install SF4.

Most of the installation seemed to go ok, but I had two installation errors.

Phase – 7 – INSTALL PROBLEM: Unable to Create Avatar Folder
Phase – 8 – INSTALL PROBLEM: Unable to Create Smiley Folder

I am happy to create these folders by hand, so please could you let me know exactly where to set up the folders and the exact names and permissions to use.

Thanks

Alistair

When the install finished and you clicked through to the forum admin there was a big popup window that gave full details of how and where to create the needed folders.
The same information is also available in the online help with the 'Installation Troubleshooting' section.
I am not sure how else we could have provided the necessary information…

Forget this – I should have pressed the next button on the installation before posting!

The next step gave me a nice helpful breakdown of the problem and a description of what was needed to fix it.

Thanks.

Thanks …. my post crossed with yours.  I hadn't got as far as clicking the next button so hadn't got to the helpful error message.

You're right – I'm not sure you could have done much more!!

I just had the same install "problem".  I came here before I hit the "go to forum admin" button.

I would suggest that if there is an install error that a footer be added indicating that the help/fix sceeen will load next or to see the "installation troubleshooting" in the online help (of which there is not link on that page so I am still left not knowing where that is.

So I am off to contune my install using what is apparently good help to come.  I just thought I would pass along my feedback along the way.

when you go to the admin, you will get exactly what you just said… a message with instructions will become visible…

I agree with the previous poster, having a little message that says solutions to problems will be found on the next page would be very good feedback for users.

I googled my way here to figure this out.
