My Wordpressver is 2.9.2

My current install ofSimplePress Forum is on V4.0.1 – yes its old and i haven't updated in ages!

I cannot find the configuration/settings pages for simplepress forum anywhere on my WP install.

http://www.oaktree.org.uk/wp-a…..ontrol.php gives me a WP permissions error.

Any ideas?

So you have no 'Forum' menu? By default just below the 'Comments' menu?
if not then are you the user who installed it? Or, when installed were you logged in under a different user account? When first installed, Simple:Press creates a forum 'Admin' user in the name and login of the person performing the installation. Any other desired forum admins need to then be added.
A Simple:Press 'Admin' is not the same as a WordPress 'Administrator'.

I am the same admin to who installed it and there is no "Forum" menu below comment within the Wordpress admin pages.

there should only be one forum admin which is me.

check your sfmembers table – the admin column…  any of the users have a 1 in that column?

I see 1 admin with display name of Tone…  is that you??

aaaaah – ok – we getting somewehere now – I had a look through that and i saw an old version of me! i.e. when i was building the site i was logging in as a different me. That profile has been deleted from WP.

Can i go in to and change the sfmembers table and add a 1 by my account? Will i need to change any other items in the tables?

how did you delete the user?  if you use the wp admin delete user feature, it removes if from sfmembers too…  anyways…

find the user you want to have admin in the wp usermeta table…  find the wp capabiities meta value for the entry and change it to:

a:12:{s:13:"administrator";s:1:"1";s:18:"SPF Manage Options";s:1:"1";s:17:"SPF Manage Forums";s:1:"1";s:22:"SPF Manage User Groups";s:1:"1";s:22:"SPF Manage Permissions";s:1:"1";s:21:"SPF Manage Components";s:1:"1";s:15:"SPF Manage Tags";s:1:"1";s:19:"SPF Manage Profiles";s:1:"1";s:17:"SPF Manage Admins";s:1:"1";s:18:"SPF Manage Toolbox";s:1:"1";s:24:"SPF Manage Configuration";s:1:"1";s:16:"SPF Manage Users";s:1:"1";}

since you are on very old version, that might not be quite correct, but close… then go to the spf manage admins panel and fix up the capabilites for that user…

SP 4.0.1 wont run under WP 2.9.2. You need at least 4.1.3.

This was caused by WP changing the way they handle their menu system permisisons

OK i've been trying to sort this but no joy so far.

On thinking
about it i reveres what i said  before

  • i did delete a user profile but it was unlikeley to be the main
one i started with. It wouldn't have been a logical move
  • it could also explain the discrepencies with this ver of
    simpleress forum working under WP2.9.2

That said  – any ideas on how to upgrade?

I know there are some
version specific instructions but seeing as i would be doing an upgrade
to a much newer version can you advise me on the best corse of action?
