Hi,
When I am trying to install SPF-V402-MINIMAL I am keep getting a directory install problem. I browse for the zip file then click Intall in Wordpress and then half way through the install I get a "Could not create directory" message and the instal fails. Each time I do it I get an other directory coming up. Any ideas.
Thanks,
John S
what is your php file upload limit? Its possible you are exceeding that…
can you not simply ftp up the files?
I'm also running into installation / upgrade problems. Now on the WP 2.7.1 build, upload and activated V402-MINIMAL without incident. But when I try to upgrade I immediately get:
DATABASE ERROR: Unable to ALTER the wp_sfmessages to create new column
No futher instructions, no similar issues with any other plugin upgrades (including prior installations of other forum type plugins). Tried deactivating and reactivating — identical results.
Occassionally it has made a difference to disclose that 1and1.com is hosting the site — but I don't think they have any special restrictions on the MySQL administration.
Any recommendations, hacks or further diagnostics?
Thanks in advance for your patience with all of us and your assistance.
Steve
1and1 tends to be very limiting in its capabilities provided to users. have you verified that the table actually exists in the db? If it does exist, then its possible they have not given your mysql user alter rights in the db. If it does not exist, then its something else.
Is this an fresh, completely new installation? or upgrade?
This is the first installation of Simple-Forum. The WP installation is about 1.5 years old and has been upgraded from (I believe) the initially installed 2.1 version.
Will check on user rights, but no other plugin has displayed this error and numerous supplementary tables have been created by the a various other plugins. So I suspect it is "something else" — any conflicts with other plugins or themes you might be aware of?
Thanks, will post update later today.
Steve
Can I ask if the plugin did install? Do you have a working admin menu for example – or did it literally stop going any further when the DB error hit?
Also do you know if your host server is running Linux or MS IIS?
well table create and table alter are two completely different things… which is why I asked if the table itself was created… it should be created first in the process and then later gets altered… if the table itself was created, then i would check on alter permissions on your mysql set up (your host would likely have to do this)… if the table was never created earlier in the process, then thats why the alter statement would fail… which is why I asked the question if it exists…
