Can you tell me if your API is compatible with the bbPress API? In other words, if I have a script that was written for bbPress, would that also work with SimplePress? The specific API method I'm concerned with is the method for posting new forum messages.

No, at least not intentionally... any similarity would be coincidental or mean that they had utilized our API which I would very highly doubt... 

Simple Press has its own API for such things, so its certainly possible to do, but the scripts would need updating...
