Thank you. Got it mostly figured out EXCEPT… for when I try to activate it I get the following error:

Are you running the most recent versions of the simple:press add-on plugins and themes?

I’m not running SP at all, it won’t activate.

I’m running WordPress 6.1.1.

I’ll try deactivating all the plugins again and try reactivating it again.

Yep, same result with the fatal error posted above.

Simple:Press plugins and WordPress plugins (and themes) are different things.  It sounds like you didn’t deactivate your Simple:Press plugins and themes before upgrading.  So you have two choices:

– Apply the latest simple:press plugins using sFTP or

– Restore from a backup and go through the process again, making sure you follow the steps outlined in the upgrade documentation related to deactivating things before upgrading.

I removed the sp-ban-plugin, simple press now loads but the admin menu doesn’t respond to clicks…

It’s possible it’s not loading the latest js and css scripts.  Use CTRL-F5 to force a full reload.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you’re probably experiencing a conflict with another plugin – check the browser CONSOLE to see if there are any JS errors.

I was able to get it up and running finally. Had to play with the plugins for a while and download some new ones to replace some that were way obsolete.

Only problem I see now is that when I try to download files including backups of the site my antivirus gives me an error saying a threat was removed and that it couldn’t read the source file.

I don’t think that part has anything to do with Simple:Press.  Maybe it’s a false positive from the antivirus software, maybe it’s a real threat.  Probably worth engaging the services of a security expert to make the call if you’re not sure what’s happening there.  If you’ve been running older WP plugins and themes that hadn’t been updated for a while its possible that something slipped in.  Many updates to themes and plugins include security related fixes so if you didn’t have those the message you’re seeing might be real.
