New posts since last visit

Hi guys,

Don’t know if it’s just me with this issue, but the “New posts since last visit” flag never seems to go away for me. I see the icon on the group view so go to the forum, but no new posts are there and none are marked as new. Head back to the group view and the New Posts flag is still set, even after a refresh and leaving it for a while to see if that helped. I’ve also tried deleting my cache and cookies but that hasn’t made any difference.

Only noticed it here though, not on my forum running 4.1.3. Anyone else repoted this problem?

Not that I am aware of. Did you, um, read the wiki article on how they are handled?

Well I think I understand it yes, but for example, this forum has no
unread topics in it now. If I view the forum there are no topics marked
as unread, yet on the group view the red icon is still there saying
there are new posts since last visit.

I’ve tried logging out and back in again, but the red icon still doesn’t go. On the topic view it removes the flags immediatly.

Ah. You are talking about the Group view.
That is more problematic. Treat it as a guideline! To get it to be totally accurate I have to strip out a lot of code and replace it. for most users – who don’t ‘live’ in the forum it should be pretty good but when you spend a lot of time in there it can be iffy.
Try logging out and back in again see what happens.

Yeah, it’s just the group view that is giving an incorrect status. I’ve got about four different forums that all indicate new messages on the group view since the last visit. But none of them actually have any new posts.

Doesn’t matter how many times I log in/out… oh well.

Didn’t change after you logged out? That’s curious…

Nope, I still see the icon. Made a quick screencast and put it up as a private video on YouTube:

What? Of the new post icon? Well I understand the problem.
Anyway went on to `youtube and it told me just that – the video was private…

Err… well it is private, but the URL should allow you to watch it.. I’ll try again, here:

it uses the timestamp of your login and checks that against the timestamp of the last post to be made in that forum.
I wonder if it might be a timezone issue…

Where do you get the timestamp from? Is it comparing the time on the local machine to the forum time? If so then is could certainly be a problem, but not if my local time is never taken into consideration. The time stamp on my last post in this forum was 9:16am, but in fact it’s 9:38pm here, so there’s something wrong there anyway.

What is your timestamp setting in your profile here?

The time zone in my profile is set to America/Chicago with +/- set to 0.

Interesting. And the timestamp on that post is 10:17am which is obviously wrong as I make it what.. 4:20 PM in Chicago? So for starters we perhaps have a problem with the server time…

Look like it 🙂 Your new post was at 10:29am apparently.
