Off Topic – New Plugin Idea (need help)

There is something that I know has been a big hole in the WordPress community and most particularly in the SEO/Marketing/Make Money Blogging Crowd… The ability to have users, refer other users, and have those referrals tracked inside wordpress.

There are all kinds of tools for affiliate linking… sell other people's crap on your blog with links…

But there is no Affiliate Tracking plugin for WP or WPMU…

I need this for my new site, http://PlanetGreenCentral.com/ which I intend to setup as a profit sharing WPMU site dedicated to the environment, But I know I don't have the knowledge of how to do nice backend dashboard pages or database integration.

I have however found a solution, but I need help coding it… (remember the brickmeister?)

there is a free open source web application called Plus-Affiliate… it allows people to signup to your site and become affiliates, where their username is their affiliate code… it tracks who referred whom, multiple levels deep (or who purchased what), allowing the owner to assign values (credits or cash) for each new referral (can also track sales if you sell something on your blog)

Having looked into the core of the plus affiliate application, a trimmed down and slightly reorganized version of plus-affiliate could be turned into a wp or wpmu plugin, simply by replacing the heavy duty database mechanics in the program to the simpler WP data routines, and by replacing the direct calls to admin and user pages, to dashboard admin menus and user info pages.

This type of plugin would be worth making as a premium (pay) plugin and could easily become a major cost offset to SPF (which could also become a premium plugin by it's self at this point)

I desperately need this plugin, but i have no time to build it myself, and no money to pay a developer. You have done such a good job with SPF that, minus a copy for my sites. I would feel like I've helpped, by giving you all the credit and allow you to sell or list the plugin for download here, or on your stuff.YellowSwordfish site.

Sorry I don’t really understand what this is about… My fault for ignoring all the important things in weblife (social networking, SEO, making money). I don’t even know what digg is. I opened a facebook account because someone asked me to and I looked at the page for a long time trying to we work out what it was and just gave up…

Steve – can you help me out please?

Tracking referals is a hot topic in some circles, and wordpress just doesnt handle it at all…

this could be your big ticket item. even bigger than SimplePress

Radio, just reread your post and still confused…  I understand the concept of affiliate with advertising, but not sure with wordpress…  you want to have an affiliate system for referring folks to join a forum??

perhaps an elaboration further on the requirements?

Sorry to take so long to reply to this. I am back out of the hospital (again) and have been fighting with medications.

As far as affiliate plugins go: there are tons of plugins that allow you to use other people's affiliate programs, but no plugins to allow you to run your own affiliate program.

This plugin will track referral INBOUND links. i.e. https://simple-press.com/?refferer=username

This tracking will allow you to see which users have provided the most traffic/links/registrations/sales and also assign a suitable reward/incentive for those items to the user's wordpress account. (credits/monetary value/upgrade user level/etc.)

Users also can see their own accounts under the wordpress dashboard or perhaps in the front end under a special page (dynamic to that user only).

The whole purpose of this plugin is to help promote your wordpress site, by rewarding those who's promoting of your site, have the greatest effects.

The market for this plugin could be any wordpress blogger who wants to increase their blog traffic, promote their blog (or forum), or anything else for that matter…

Bands can develop 'Street Teams' of Fans who help promote the their music and reward team members with money or free promotional material, concert tickets, etc….

Marketing Guru's can track cash rewards for their users referrals…

Web-Comic authors can develop cult sites and reward fans for forwarding their comics to friends…

Paid Membership sites can build their affiliates links and profit sharing membership inside wordpress…

you should get the idea now…
